18% positivity rate of CoViD-19 in South Cotabato not alarming

The positivity rate or the percentage rate of persons tested positive of the Corona Virus (CoViD)-19 versus the total number of individuals tested in South Cotabato is still low, according to Provincial Health Officer Dr. Rogelio B. Aturdido Jr.

Based on the latest trend, the province positivity rate is 512 tested positive out of 2,789 tested which is equivalent to 18.36%.

“The positivity rate is not conclusive as basis for determining the percentage of individuals infected in the province with CoViD-19,” Dr. Aturdido pointed out during the KapihansaKapitolyo media forum recently when asked by media.

“I think what is more effective will be looking into the attack rate of CoViD-19 which is more accurate than positivity rate,” Aturdido stressed.

Attack rate is the total number of infected individuals (or those tested positive) versus the total population of a certain area.

“If we used the attack rate, I am sure that the result will show that rate of infected individuals in the province will greatly reduce,” Aturdidoadded.
