2017 Search for Cleanest & Greenest LGU all set and ready

The 2017 Search for Cleanest and Greenest is all set and ready, so declared by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) during the weekly Kapehan sa Kapitolyo sponsored by the Provincial Information Office.

Aurora Andrea de Pedro, newly-installed Officer-in-Charge of DILG – South Cotabato disclosed that as part of the new set of criteria and mechanics for this year’s contest, the initial and final evaluations will be unannounced.

“Aside from being unannounced, another new criteria introduced is the Comprehensive 10-Year Clean and Green Program Implementation which the respective participating LGU will present in Audio-Visual Production form, with a corresponding 10 percentage points,” de Pedro explained.

The other criteria of the contest also include Clean and Green Governance – 30%, Barangay -20%, Public Market -10%, Plaza and Parks – 5%, Roadside Beautification – 10%, Public Terminal – 5%, 10-Year SWM Plan Implementation – 10%, and the Comprehensive 10-Year Clean and Green Program Implementation -10%, for a total of 100 percentage points.

Members of the Technical Working Group / Evaluation Team revised the criteria during the Program Review conducted last year in Evelandia Resort, Takunel, and Lake Sebu.

Supervising Environment Management Specialist Elbe Balucanag of PEMO – Environment Management Division likewise presented the cash incentives for winners which were increased from last year’s cash prizes.

This year’s prizes enumerated by SEMS Balucanag are as follows: First Place winner – P800,000.00, Second Place – P500,000.00, Third Place – P300,000.00, Fourth Place – P10,000.00, Fifth Place – P100.000.00, and Sixth Place – P80,000.00.

A consolation prize of P40,000.00 will also be given each to non-winning LGUs.

Special Prizes will also be awarded to deserving LGUs that are adjudged Best Public Market (P30,000.00), Best Plaza & Park (P30,000.00), Best Central Material Recovery Facility (P30,000.00), Best Barangay- (1ST) P30,000.00, (2ND) P20,000,00, (3RD) P10,000.00, Best Roadside Beautification (P30,000), Best Nursery (P30,000), Best Community Garden (P30,000.00), Best Backyard Garden (P10,000.00), Best Public Toilet (P10,000.00).

De Pedro also announced that the Awarding of Prizes is scheduled during the 2017 T’nalak Festival held on July 18.

The initial evaluation, Balucanag meanwhile confirmed, will start from the last week of February up to the middle week of March which is the window period of the contest.
