2017 Search for Model Schools in Solid Waste Management to start on August

Technical Working Group (TWG) members of the 2017 Search for Model Schools in Solid Waste Management led by the Provincial Environment Management Office met with City/Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (C/MENROs) and school representatives to discuss the criteria, mechanics and guidelines of this year’s search.

The contest which is open to all elementary and secondary schools province-wide has a revised criteria, mechanics and guidelines which TWG members crafted during a Performance Implementation Review conducted last year.

Under the new criteria, the initial evaluation which is equivalent to 25% will consist of a Solid Waste Management Action Plan that includes activities, budget, timeframe, expected output, and responsible person and must be presented to the team of evaluators.

During the final evaluation which is equivalent to 75%, a scrapbook or documentation must be presented which will be evaluated by the evaluators.

Up for grab are cash incentives for the top ten (10) winners, special awards and consolation prizes to non-winners.

The initial evaluation will start from August 1 – 15 while the final evaluation will be from October 1 – 16.

Awarding of winners is slated on November which coincides with the Environmental Awarenes Month, Clean Air Month and Climate Change Conscious Week celebrations.
