Provincial tourism proposes ‘At Home Ako Dito,’ part of the Corona recovery phase

Koronadal City—To lessen the impact of the tourism industry in South Cotabato because of Coronavirus pandemic, the Provincial Arts, Culture, Tourism and Museum Development Promotions Unit proposed “At Home Ako Dito,” a tourism promotions program that would encourage residents to rediscover the tourist destinations, food and cultural icons of their town.

Argie Ryan Asaria, Tourism officer 1, said the province is rolling out tourism strategies to reduce the Corona effect in the local tourism industry.

“One of the adverse effects of the pandemic is our tourism arrival since the issue is still physical distancing even we are gearing towards General Quarantine,” Asaria said.

“The program aims to present travel itineraries that cater to our locals,” Asaria said.

In a sectoral meeting held recently, Asaria submitted a proposal for the recovery phase of the COVID pandemic.

“The Provincial Government of South Cotabato wanted us to draft programs and strategies that would make up the loss in the economy,” he stressed out.

Once the outbreak is over, it could take up to 10 months for the industry to recover, Asaria said.

“We are very positive that we can make it,” he emphasized.

Tourism is an umbrella of other sectors like agriculture, infrastructure, trades and industry, and many more, making it the fastest-growing industry in the country.

The province is also looking for a possible venture in a virtual tour, producing online videos that are appealing for social media viewers.

“Let’s make use of our technology since visiting in parks and tourist destinations need physical distancing,” Asaria added.
