Koronadal City—-Health authorities here provide practical ways to control and prevent dengue fever outbreaks, stressing a five-minute break every day to roam around the house and look for containers mosquitoes lay their eggs.
Jose Barroquillo, Sanitary Inspector, said in the absence of an effective vaccine that protects humans from dengue, environmental management approaches are the most effective way to eliminate mosquitoes.
“In two weeks, mosquito larvae will die because they don’t have a breeding place,” Barroquillo said.
The health promotions team used localized promotional material to support the 4-S national campaign focused on the prevention strategy.
From January to July 30, Provincial Disease Surveillance recorded 1036 cases, a 29 percent increase compared to last year. Six died of dengue from Norala, Tantangan, Tampakan, Tupi, and the City of Koronadal, Dengue Program Coordinator Lowell Sajot confirmed.
“There is a clustering of dengue in the town of Polomolok with 110 percent increase of cases compared last year, Sajot pointed out.
Sajot said despite the looming cases of COVID, South Cotabato is also fighting for dengue the hard way.
“Face-to-face sharing of information is limited because of health protocols, making dengue work more complicated, he added.
