Board members try to solve traffic woes in South Cotabato towns

Koronadal City—The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of South Cotabato eyed to assist towns to resolve future traffic issues as few of the municipalities in the province are getting busier because of the influx of employment.

Dar Darnilo Dar, Chairperson of the Committee on Transportation at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, urged other local government units (LGU) in the province to emulate the Polomolok Municipal Council and enact similar ordinances specifically on over speeding and slow-moving vehicles.

“As of now, tricycles and motorcycles are on the outer lane as the town’s ordinance says so,” Dar noted.

He stressed out the ordinance emphasized that tricycles and motorcycles should always keep right or when traversing the national highway always occupy the outer lane.

“I initiated a dialogue with other town councils and presented the success story of Polomolok,” Dar said.

The national law says tricycles and motorcycles are not allowed to pass through the national highway, but for towns with no alternate routes, motor vehicles are only allowed to traverse or utilize the national road.

With the local ordinance, Polomolok allows the motorcycles and tricycles to pass through the main road provided that they will always keep the outer lane.

Commuters in the City of Koronadal and other developing towns like Suralah have already experienced a traffic jam.

“Every town has different traffic issues that is why I am encouraging the other municipal councils to solve traffic problems in their area by approving an ordinance,” Dar added.
