Health Care Waste Treatment Facility to be upgraded soon

Provincial Environment Management Officer Siegfred Flaviano confirmed that the South Cotabato Health Care Waste Treatment Facility (HCWTF) located at Tinongcop, Tantangan will be upgraded soon.

The HCWTF which employs pyroclave technology will be upgraded with a budget of P 2 million, according to PEMO Flaviano. The upgrade includes the shredder and instead of the present LPG that it is using as fuel, it will now use oxygen which will be more economical and environment-friendly.

Aside from the pyroclave, Flaviano added that additional waste cells with P 2 million budget will also  be built to accommodate the increasing volume of hospital wastes being treated on a daily basis at the treatment facility.

The province collects an average of 13 tons hospital wastes a month coming from 26 hospitals, generating a revenue of almost P400,000.

The projects have already undergone the bidding process, so upgrading and construction will soon start upon contract awarding to winning bidders, Flaviano said.
