Local health officials engage parents to increase immunization this year

Koronadal City— The decreased in immunization target among children below five years old in South Cotabato last year prompted the Integrated Provincial Health Office to engage parents for the all-year-round vaccination this year.

Marifort Rafael, Health Education Promotions Officer (HEPO), pointed out the decrease in immunization target was because of the Dengvaxia vaccine issue.

“We hope parents realize vaccines against polio, measles, and tetanus are tried and tested,” Rafael said.

At least 14, 000 children or 54 percent of the target children population was immunized in 2018 based on the data released by IPHO.

Vaccines are readily available in all government hospitals and health centers in every barangay, Rafael stressed out.

Based on the routine DOH immunization, vaccines are administered even during after child’s birth like the seven preventable diseases, and some are given on a later age or before the child is 12 months of age.

The fully immunized child must receive BCG 1, DPT 1, DPT 2, DPT 3, OPV 1, OPV 2, OPV 3, HB 1, HB 2, HB 3 and measles vaccines.
