BANGA, SOUTH COTABATO- A total of 38 corn farmers attended the meeting organized by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG) of South Cotabato to discuss the province’s consolidated corn production and mechanization program in the municipality of Banga. OPAG aims to consolidate 200 hectares of cornfields to serve as a pilot program for corn production. Currently, six cooperatives, with an estimated 1,500 members, have already joined the program.
According to Provincial Agriculturist Dr. Raul Teves, the participating farmers will undergo training to enhance their knowledge and establish cooperatives that will manage the program.
The province previously implemented a consolidated rice farming program, where the average rice harvest of four tons increased to eight to nine tons per hectare due to the program’s success.
The current administration of Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. is committed to assisting farmers by reducing their costs and increasing their yield through this program.
