With the 23rd T’nalak Festival and 56th Foundation Anniversary of South Cotabato to commence within a month’s time, theProvincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) is appealing to the general public to practice proper waste mnahagement particularly on waste disposal during the festival from July 13 – 18, 2022.
The 6-day annual festival will have acticities such as Interfaith Thanksgiving Celebration, Opening Program & Thematic Showdown, Plant Fair & Bahay Kubo/ Plants & Products Display, Regional Trade &Tourism Expo, Food Garden, Mini-Concert, T’nalak Strip, Jobs Fair, Hiphop Dance Competition, 1st RST Aeromarathon Competition, 1st RST MTB Enduro Challenge/Motocross Competition, Farm Walk/Farmers Festival/Pinaka Contest, 1st RST XC Challenge., Mutya ng South Cotabato Pageant Night, Anniversary Program & Magsinadya Street Dancing Howdown (Open Category), Governor’s Night & Recognition Awards Night, Rock-Rakan sa T’nalak and Grand Fireworks Display.
According to Elbe Balucanag, PEMO Supervising Environment Management Specialist that critical to solid waste management (SWM) are T’nalak activities that are crowd-getter where substantial foot traffic are expected in places like Rizal where the Bahay Kubo, Regional Trade//Tourism Expo, Plants & Products Display are located and Alunan Avenue/South Cotabato Sports Complex where the T’nalak Strip, Rock-Rakan sa T’nalak and Food Garden are located.
Just like the previous T’nalak celebration, Balucanag added that there are still designated acollection points where the public can disposed of their trash that will becollected by dump trucks of the City Environment & Natural Resources Office on a daily basis every morning in the duration of the festival.
As of press time, Balucanag confirmed that PEMO is conducting SWM orientation among food stall owners and other cstakeholders to ensure cleanliness during the T’nalak festival.
