The Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO), together with partner agencies, has conducted a whole day workshop on Information, Education, Advocacy and Communication (IEAC) with focus on the Mt. Matutum Protected Landscape (MMPL).
Forester Mary Jane Manlsis, PEMO – Forest and Inland Water Management Division chief and workshop convenor, disclosed that the objective is to produce a brochure that will further enhance the knowledge of the public about Mt. Matutum, particularly its bio-diversity and importance as one of the province’s watershed area.
Entitled “Mt. Matutum: Our Heritage, Our Bio-Diversity, Our Life,” the 8-page folding-type brochure written in English will present the rich history of Mt. Matutum with particular emphasis on its indigenous people and culture, its existing and endangered flora and fauna and the importance as the source of water of the municipalities of Tupi, Tampakan and Polomolok and other adjacent areas such as Gen. Santos City, Koronadal City and Malungon municipality in Sarangani province.
A dummy of the 8-page brochure was produced during the workshop by the participants who were divided into 3 topics highlighting heritage, bio-diversity and life as stipulated in its title.
Schools, local tourists and foreign visitors are the projected recipients among the stakeholders of the brochure.
Participants of the workshop likewise agreed to produce a 2-page flyer in Ilonggo dialect for distribution among locals.
PEMO currently has an existing Bio-Diversity Project in Mt. Matutum comprising 11 barangays in Tupi, Tampakan and Polomolok, and plans to expand further in Sarangani province.
PEs-O (Youth for Environment School Organizations) was likewise organized in said barangays and was very active in the IEAC campaign about MMPL.
Participants of the workshop include representatives from National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, Department of Environment and Natural resources – Protected Area Superintendent (MMPL), Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officers of Tupi and Polomolok and Provincial Information Office as Resource Speaker.
