South Cotabato Airshed Council to launch Search for Best Practicing LGUs, Industries on Air Quality Management

CITY OF KORONADAL — The South Cotabato Airshed Governing Board (SCAGB) and Technical Working Group (TWG) will launch this year “The Search for Best Practicing LGUs/ Industries on the Establishment of Air Quality Management Program”, this was decided during their recent meeting held at Casa Gemma, this city.

Dominador Samilin, DENR-EMB 12 Senior Environment Management Specialist disclosed that, the contest aims not only to create awareness on their compliance to air quality management but likewise give recognition to LGUs and industries on the establishment of their respective air quality management program.

The joint SCAB and TWG members collectively agreed to conduct the evaluation of participating LGUs and industries on the month of October based on their target versus accomplishment from January to October this year.

Awarding will be on November which coincided with the celebrations of Clean Air Month, Environmental Awareness Month and Climate Change Consciousness Week.

Prior to the presentation of the launching of the contest, Samilin presented the Work and Financial Plan of the SCAB/TWG for calendar year 2016 which included the different Programs, Projects and Activities (PPAs) that it will undertake.

The different PPAs are anchored on Capability-Building, Advocacy for Public Awareness. Enforcement and Program Implementation and Strengthening of the Operationalization of SCAB/TWG.

DENR-EMB 12 has appropriated a budget of at least P2 million for the Airshed Program.

The 35-member SCAB/TWG is composed of DENR-EMB, City and Municipal ENROs, Non-Government Organizations and other LGU Officials, with PEMO as the Head Secretariat.
