Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) Member Hilario de Pedro VI, SP Committee Chair on Environment, vowed to support the program of the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) dubbed Solid Waste Management (SWM) Eco-Caravan which will start in 2018.
In an interview, SP Member de Pedro said that the new program is laudable since its objective is to inform, educate and communicate (IEC) the PEMO’s SWM programs to the community with the end result of helping conserve and preserve the environment of the province.
“During the 2017 T’nalak Festival, I supported PEMO in their SWM program by employing a tricycle equipped with a public address system and recorded IEC plugging encouraging the people to practice proper solid waste management, so how much more with this new program,’ de Pedro stressed.
PEMO’s SWM Eco-Caravan is an off-shoot of the study tour of PEMO chief Siegfred Flaviano in Japan a few years back, which he noted as one of the SWM best practices of the country.
The program will first undergo extensive planning session prior to its full implementation by 2019, according to PEMO – Environment Management Division chief Elbe Balucanag, which she emphasized will focus on proper segregation, composting, recycling, among others.
