The province of South Cotabato kicked off its Women’s Month celebration with a dynamic array of events spanning from March 18 to 23, 2024. Led by the Provincial Government of South Cotabato, through the Provincial Population Office, the province embarked on a series of initiatives aimed at promoting women empowerment and equality.
Highlighted below are some of the key events lined up for this month’s festivities:
- March 18, 2024: Volleyball Game, Dance Contest, and Larong Babae
- March 18-22, 2024: Volleyball Competition
- March 23, 2024: iJUANARUN Fun Run
- March 22-23, 2024: Bowling Tournament
The celebration started with a bang, featuring a dance contest and Larong Babae. Polomolok won the contest, taking home Php 10,000. Banga and Tampakan secured the runner-up spots with cash prizes of 8,000 and 6,000 respectively. Other municipalities received consolation prizes.
The volleyball tournament is ongoing until March 22, with cash prizes for the top teams: 30,000 for the champion, 20,000 for the first runner-up, 15,000 for the second runner-up, and 10,000 for the third runner-up. Consolation prizes of 2,000 will be awarded to eight teams.
This year’s celebration revolves around the theme “LIPUNANG PATAS SA BAGONG PILIPINAS: Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, Patutunayan!” alongside the recurring theme: “WE: for Gender Equality, Inclusive Society.” These themes underscore the province’s unwavering commitment to advancing gender equality and inclusivity across all sectors.
The launch event was graced by the esteemed presence of Hon. Junette Hurtado, whose inspiring speech emphasized the significance of empowering women throughout South Cotabato. Her words resonated deeply with the audience, setting a tone of unity and determination for the celebration ahead.
As the festivities draw to a close, the week-long celebration will culminate with a fun run on March 23, symbolizing solidarity and support for women’s mental health.
