At least ten abaca stripping machines worth Php1.7 million were turned-over early this week to the eight farmer associations coming from the municipalities of Lake Sebu, Tboli, Tupi, and Koronadal City in support to the abaca production which is the main source for Tnalak cloth.
South Cotabato, known as the “Land of the Dreamweavers” relies on the abaca fiber in the making of this renowned cloth, Tnalak.
Agriculturist 1 Ronald Pacol said, there are t least 4000 hectares of land planted with abaca in the province which produces 500 tons of abaca fiber each year.
He added that in support to this industry, the OPAG purchased said abaca stripping machines to modernized the production of abaca fibers. One (1) unit of the machine costs Php170,000 each which are intended for the following beneficiaries:
1. Lamlahak Farmers Association (LAMFA) ng Brgy. Lamlahak, Lake Sebu
2. Assumption Farmers Association ng Brgy. Assumption, Koronadal City
3. MNLF-Luhib Lake Sebu Coconut Growers ng Brgy. Luhib, Lake Sebu
4. Kemalod Kedungon Mo Tnalak Native Products Trading ng Brgy. Lamcade, Lake Sebu
5. Damlas Buan Farmers Association ng Sitio Damlas, Brgy. Lambuling, Tboli
6. Green Forest Farmers Association ng Sitio Lamlago, Brgy. Datal Bob, Tboli
7. BLGU- Miasong sa MUnisipyo ng Tupi
8. Tasaday Reservation United Farmers Association (TRUFA) ng Sitio Tasaday, Brgy. Ned, Lake Sebu
