DOST urges private sectors to invest more on S & T projects

KORONADAL CITY- Science and Technology Secretary Fortunato Dela Pena called on private sectors to invest more on businesses concerning science and technology to contribute more to the advancement of the country.
During the two-day Mindanao Regional Scientific Meeting (RSM) held early this week in Koronadal City, Dela Pena said, there is a need for more network especially coming from the business sector to complement the effort of the Department of Science and Technology not only in terms of disseminating its program and projects but in supporting its efforts as well.
“Where there are more investments on S &T, there will be more good employment opportunities for our graduates and scholar. This way, they will not be enticed to work abroad.” He said,
The activity held for the first time in this city was sponsored by the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL) in partnership with the DOST 12 with the theme, “ Caring for the Country’s Carrying Capacity”.
The event highlighted the country’s effort in attaining quality education, responsible consumption and production and life below water, which are part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The NAST PHL invited national scientists and academicians to speak on three important topics concerning plastic waste, sustainable marine food security and sustainable education, talent development and retentions.
At least 500 participants coming from the academe, business sector and other stakeholders participated in the activity.
The RSM is a prelude to the conduct of the Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM in July to be held in Metro Manila. The ASM is an annual gathering of public and private partners in Science and Technology which discusses major issues for the development of the country.
