The celebration of History Month every August of the year coincided with the province of South Cotabato making history as it celebrated the birth anniversaries of its 2 National Living Treasures, Lang Dulay on August 3 in Sitio T’bomg, Lamdalag, Lake Sebu and Yabing Masalon Dulo on August 8 in Sitio Amguo, Landan, Polomolok.
Fu Yabing, as she is fondly called in the B’laan community where lived until her death last January 26, 2021, is 108 years old yesterday and was declared Gawad sa Manlilika ng Bayan (GAMABA) for tabih weaving in 2016 and officially conferred the award in 2018.
Officials of Polomolok LGU, Municipal Tourism Office Purok Amguo and the immediate family graced the occasion and took turn in giving tribute to her.
A wreath-laying ceremony with candle-lighting led by family members and public officials culminated the activity at noontime (August 8) in her final resting place after the short, simple program
Meanwhile, GAMABA awardee Boi or Princess Lang Dulay was remembered during her 94th birth anniversary ( August 3) in a simple vreath-laying and cand;e-lighting ceremony in her final resting place beside her residence. She died on April 30, 2015 and was officially declared as National Living Treasure on March 27, 1998.
Local government officials of South Cotabato, the municipality of Lake Sebu and national agencies led by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Department of Tourism (DOT), and the immediate family of the national artist attended the ceremony.
