2,000 “stars” shine during Council-wide Holiday

Some 2,000 Star Scouts all over the province trooped to Tupi Central Elementary School last August 115 to 17 to join the Council-wide Holiday activity of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) – South Cotabato Council.

Adelaida Nadera, GSP Council President, formally welcomed the star scouts coming from 22 public elementary school districts and private schools and encouraged them to actively participate in all the activities as GSP advocates self-reliance and value formation for the young scouts.

Star Scouts are “Girl Scouts” that are from Grades1 to 3 in the elementary level, as classified by the GSP.

Tupi Mayor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. likewise welcomed the campers, parents, teachers and guests in attendance and thanked the GSP for making their municipality as host of this year’s activity.

After the formal opening by Camp Director Janice Janapon, the star scouts’ first day activity started with “loom-band” making and “pajama” party during the night.

The following day after breakfast, a short hike to Sweet Waters Resort for a swimming treat ensued and after which, a flag-painting activity per school was judged.

Scouters were able to show their beauty and talent during the afternoon of that day with a contest on Best in Official Scout Uniform, Casual Attire, Sports Attire, Swimsuit, among others.

During the last night of the activity, organizers dubbed it as United Nations Night as scouters of each city or municipal elementary district level wore national costumes of the country assigned to them.

Also included in the costume party was the short dance presentation of the respective district that reached almost midnight to finish.

The last activity day was dedicated to attending an early morning mass, tree-planting activity within the school premises, “making friends with fellow star scouts”, “packing things properly” and announcement of winners of the different contests.

Scouting as an international activity will celebrate its centennial or 100 years this October 2014.
