At least 523 public schools in South Cotabato received the First tranche of Financial Assistance to Public Schools amounting to Php17.5 million from the Provincial Government of South Cotabato under the Assistance to Public Education Program, one of the flagship programs under the administration of Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr.
Governor Tamayo led the official distribution of cash assistance held yesterday at the South Cotabato Gym and Cultural Program which was attended by school heads of the province’s ten towns and lone city based on their categorization by the Department of Education.
Under the said program, schools were categorized based on the number of students enrolled for the school year 2022-2023.
Out of the total number of schools including their extensions, 390 are elementary and 133 are secondary schools. Here are the number of schools that receive the cash amount depending on their categorization:
Category A – 58 schools (1 to 99 students), Php58,000each with a total of Php3.24 million
Category B – 353 schools ( 100 to 499 students ), Php60,000 each with a total of Php21.18 million
Category C – 79 schools (500-999 students) receive Php85,000 each with a total of Php6.7 million
Category D – 23 schools (1000 to 1999 students) receive Php100,000 each with a total of Php2.3 million
Category E – 12 schools (2000 above) receive Php125,000 each with a total of Php1.5 million
Provincial Administrator Atty. Renette Bergado said the province has allocated a total of Php34.9 million as financial assistance to both elementary and secondary schools with the aim to promote free access to education and implement the Zero Collection Policy of DepEd.
