5th Recyclable Waste Fair preparations now in high gear

CITY OF KORONADAL — Final preparations are underway for the holding of the 5th South Cotabato Recyclable Waste Fair slated on November 25 at Gaisano Mall, this city.

Technical Working Group (TWG) members led by the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) together with City and Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officers met in a Core Group meeting recently to discuss the mechanics on the buying of recyclables, contests and flow of program of the whole day activity.

Two contests, Recy-Creativity –Recycla-Cosplay for elementary pupils and Recy-Composition for high school students, with cash incentives at stake will be held as in the morning one of the highlights of the activity.

Senior Environment Management Specialist Elbe Balucanag disclosed that part of the program is the signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) among LGUs for the use of the South Cotabato Sanitary Landfill (SLF) located in Colongulo, Surallah in disposing their residual wastes.

Likewise, Bio-Tek Farms, an emerging poultry and hog-raising company in the province, is expected to launch their program on purchasing used paper and recycle it into egg trays as part of their corporate social responsibility.

The awarding of the 2016 Search for Model Schools in Solid Waste Management will also take center stage during the afternoon with the Top 5 Major Prize winners, Special Prize awardees as well as consolation prize winners receiving their cash incentives.

November is celebrated every year as Environment Awareness Month, Clean Air Month and Climate Change Consciousness Week from November 19 – 26.
