Bantay Kita conducts its community empowerment in the local governance of the extractive industry

Bantay Kita (BK-PWYP Phils.), Convergence for Integrity and Environmental Justice (CIEJ) and the Foundation for the Development of Agusanons, Inc. (FDAI) recently concluded the UNDEF Project Module 1: Ensuring Agricultural Productivity and Social Accountability in the Governance of Extractive Industry (EI) in South Cotabato last February 20-22, 2019 at Villa Pricessita, Jabido Compound, Koronadal City. The activity was attended by twenty-five (25) grassroots partners representing the rice farmers / irrigators, indigenous peoples, religious sector, urban homeowners’ association, women, civil society and the City Agricultural and Fishery Council (CAFC) of Koronadal and neighbouring municipalities of South Cotabato – Open Government Partnership. The said activity aims to promote grassroots empowerment through meaningful involvement in the local governance mechanism of the extractive industry: large-scale mining, small-scale gold and non-metallic (sand and gravel) mining).

Module 2 Training using the Provincial Government’s Online Portal on Extractive Industry Monitoring will follow this month of March 2019.
