“Brigada Eskwela” kicks off today, ASec Mateo graces region-wide launching program

City of Koronadal – The annual “Oplan Brigade Eskwela” of the Department of Education (DepEd) kicked off today May 19 (Monday) with a street motorcade, this city, to signal the start of a new schoolyear for both public elementary and high schools.

After the motorcade, DepEd 12 regional, division, district and school officials together with other stakeholders converged at the Koronadal National Comprehensive High School for the formal region-wide launching program.

DepEd Undersecretary Jesus Lorenzo Mateo, Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker, thanked all the participants that joined the launching and encouraged them to continue their “bayanihan” spirit in preparing their respective school for the June 2 school opening.

Six public elementary and high schools were recognized during the program for being the Best Brigada Eskwela Achiever Schools.

They were Kalawag Central Elementary School and Bambad Elementary School of Sultan Kudarat and La Consolacion Elementary School of Cotabato Province for the elementary level, and Esperanza National High School and Isulan National High School of Sultan Kudarat and Tupi National High School of South Cotabato in the secondary level.

While the opening program was on-going, Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) officials, parents, teachers and the community together with other stakeholders trooped to their respective school to conduct clean-up drive, re-painting and minor repairs to prepare the classrooms for the school opening.

The “Brigada” likewise coincided with the start of enrolment of all elementary pupils and high school students, with many parents and guardians seen queuing in administrative offices to enroll their children or wards for the new schoolyear.

This year’s “Brigada” theme centered on “Ensuring Disaster-Preparedness and Safety in Schools.”
