City of Koronadal bids for 2015 Palaro, SouthCot assures support

The City of Koronadal, Regional Center of SOCCSKSARGEN Region, will bid in the hosting of Palarong Pambansa in 2015, joining other LGUs in Mindanao that will also try their luck in making it as next year’s host.

City Mayor Peter B. Miguel will personally lead the Koronadal delegation during the Palarong Pambansa grand opening in Sta. Cruz, Laguna on May 5, 2014 to showcase their intention to bid as host in  the 2015 Palarong Pambansa.

The delegation is composed of city legislators, department heads, education officials and other stakeholder.

Earlier, Mayor Miguel met with Governor Daisy Avance Fuentes in her office to discuss his intention to bid for the 2015 Palaro.

Governor Fuentes assured him of her support especially on the renovation and repair of the suth Cotabato Sports Complex.

It is now Mindanao’s turn to host the annual national games, as the sequence of hosting showed that Luzon is allowed to host the event twice in every 4-year cycle compared to only once each for Visayas and Mindanao.

Koronadal City has already hosted the Palaro twice; once as co-host in 1996, together with the provinces of South Cotabato and Sarangani and General Santos City; and in 2007, as the lone host of the games.

The city has been receiving positive feedbacks among education and sports officials, athletes, guests and visitors, particularly the national and local media,    as one of the best sports venue in the country hosting the Palaro games.

Sports journalists are all praises in the playing venues, billeting quarters, transportation, media center, and particularly the peace and order condition and hospitality of Koronadalenos.

Mayor Miguel is confident they could snatch the win, despite stiff competition among other LGUs interested to host next year’s sports event.
