A new school program dubbed IskulTour was recently launched by the Department of Education (DepED) South Cotabato Division in partnership with the province’s Arts, Culture, Tourism & Museum (ACTM) Promotions Unit and the Provincial Tourism Council of South Cotabato, Inc. in celebration of Tourism Month this September.
Tourism Operations Officer Argie Asaria disclosed during the launching that the program aims to incorporate all the tourism icons of South Cotabato in lesson plans of all subjects in public schools, such as Math, Science, Araling Panlipunan, EPP, ESP MAPEH, among others, to impart awareness and knowledge to pupils and students about the tourism icons as well as attractions and destinations of the province.
IskulTour will be piloted in Year 4 and Year 7 under DepED’s K-12 program.
Included part of the launching a demonstration led by Senior Education Program Specialist Jennifer Tupas with teachers/writers who were instrumental in crafting the lesson plans for the program.
Likewise, messages of support were given by Board Member Cecil Diel, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee Chair on History, Tourism and Culture vice Governor Daisy Avance Fuentes and DepEd School Division Superintendent Usagani de lea Cruz.
The launching was well attended by Hotel and Restaurant Management students in the province.
