Some 30 teachers from the Department of Education (DepED) coming from different schools province-wide joined the Techno-Training on Bamboo Crafts-Making last March 3-5 as part of the Kawayan Festival held at PROTECH Center, City of Koronadal.
Under the auspices of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) 12, the teachers were taught the different concepts/ideas and basic skills on processing bamboo materials for developing new handicraft products or product diversification.
The DOST Resource Speakers were Forester Robert Natividad, Chief Science Research Specialist, Forester Medardo Centeno, Senior Science Research Specialist and Eduardo Atienza, Science Research Specialist.
Aside from teachers, eight other local craftsmen joined the 3-day training
Earlier, Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) conducted a one-day Financing Forum for bamboo farmers, middlemen and artisans.
The forum aims to inform bamboo enthusiasts of the different financing schemes of LBP which bamboo growers, traders and craftsmen could avail.
