DILG warns barangay officials on partisan politics

Koronadal City—Provincial DILG reminded the barangay officials to distance themselves against personal political considerations during this time of election campaign.

Lawyer Michelle Anne Viejo, DILG Officer-in-Charge in South Cotabato, said her office abides on the standing order with Civil Service Commission.

“The point of the DILG here is to prohibit the use of any barangay services to advance a political party and to control local candidates as to who could enter and conduct political sorties in the barangay,” Viejo explained.

Local DILG emphasized the freedom of barrio people to hear the agenda of the political candidates. “Don’t make the candidates’ life difficult by not supporting them from entering the barangay.”

Earlier, DILG demanded all barangay officials remove campaign materials poster in government facilities, properties, and vehicles.

However, DILG encourage people’s participation by taking pictures of the campaign material and reporting it to the nearest Comelec or DILG office.
