As part of their Community-based Upland and Natural Resources Management Program, the Provincial Environment Management Office – Forest and Inland Water Division (PEMO – FIWD) plans to reforest 40 hectares of timberland area at Barangay Talcon in the municipality of T’boli.
PEMO – FIWD chief Forester Mary Jane Manlisis disclosed that the estimated cost of the project will run to P 1 million and will be implemented from June to September this year.
Within the said 4-month period, the FIWD intends to procure planting materials and organic inputs for the said project.
It will also craft a Memorandum of Agreement that will be signed both by PEMO and the intended beneficiaries to ensure sustainability of the project.
Meanwhile, FIWD will further strengthen its forest protection drive with provision of incentives and rewards to informants.
FIWD aims to strengthen its monitoring, protection and apprehension of illegal logging activities with the help of the community and other stakeholders.
At present, FIWD banks on its organized arm, the Association of South Cotabato Earth Savers (ASCES), in its anti-illegal logging campaign that resulted to a number of apprehensions by law enforcers.
PEMO, in convergence with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, will also assists the 10 municipalities in the province in the crafting of their respective Forest Land Use plan this year.
