Good education frees IPs from discrimination

Koronadal City—The opportunity to go to school is a major enabler for indigenous people to free them from the bondage of  discrimination, Governor Reynaldo Tamayo, Jr. expressed his sentiment during the Indigenous People Leader’s Summit held at Barangay Glandang yesterday.

“Quality education is the best foundation for everyone, especially for the indigenous children, to exercise and enjoy economic, social and cultural rights,” Governor Tamayo said.

He emphasized that the free education program of the Provincial Government, through Kabugwason Paglaum Scholarship, was able to cater children of poor and indigenous people families.

“This program is especially made for people like you who lack opportunity to get the education that every child deserve,” he told the IP leaders.

“I have implemented the “no school fees” among government elementary and secondary schools to encourage families to send their children to school.”

The governor wished that the scholarship program of South Cotabato would bring more competent professionals among the indigenous people.

“I am happy that in my administration there are engineers, teachers and other professionals who are IPs. The next thing we wanted is to give them the opportunity to work in the government,” he added.
