Health surveillance team monitors 3 fire-cracker related injuries as of Dec. 29

Koronadal City—Three children were involved in a fire-cracker related injury as of December 29 in South Cotabato, barely two days before the Philippines celebrate the New Year, according to Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (PESU) report.

However, the report said cases were 25 % lower compared to the same period last year.

The patients were 8,11 and 18 years old.

The report also confirmed that two of the involved children were actively involved or directly handling the firecracker/fireworks.

The children used illegal firecrackers like Boga, and five star and a legal friecracker kwitis.  Leading cause of injuries by type were blast/burn without amputation.

PESU added there were no reported cases of death due to firecracker injury and there was no incidence of stray bullet.
