PHO issues advisory on NCOV

Though health authorities have not yet confirmed a single positive case of the 2019 Novel Corona Virus (NCOV), it is best that we initiate precautionary measures in order to avoid the spread of the said virus, Provincial Health Officer II Dr. Rogelio Aturdido Jr. disclosed as an advisory on the NCOV scare threatening our country today.

Dr. Aturdido stressed that the symptoms of NCOV are similar to a person suffering from influenza or flu such as colds, cough and fever, but sometimes followed by difficulty in breathing.

“But NCOV is not as devastating as MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) or Severe Acute respiratory Syndrome (SARS) which caused a number of deaths among those infected a few years back  ,” Aturdido said.

So for persons suffering from cough and colds, Aturdido advised “to wear surgical mask, avoid touching the eyes, nose and mouth of an individual and also avoid kissing and hand-shaking each other for the meantime. Those suffering from flu are likewise advised to avoid crowded places so as not to spread the virus.”

“Let us also build-up our immunity by eating healthy foods, take vitamin C, drink plenty of water and get adequate sleep daily, and also implement proper hand-washing,” Aturdido added,” so that in this way we can avoid contracting the virus.”
