Koronadal, South Cot tankers break Palaro, Reg’l Meet records

City of Koronadal – An 11-year Grade 6 pupil of Koronadal Central Elementary School II, this city, is the new toast of the newly-named SOCCSKSARGEN Regional Athletic Association (SRAA) Meet when she broke the existing Palarong Pambansa record in the elementary-girls division 50-meter backstroke event.

Swimmer April Rose Taculod’s time clocking of 32.02 seconds demolished the Palaro record of 36.07 seconds in the said event.

Taculod’s feat is considered “hitting 2 birds in one stone” as she also demolished last year’s record of 37.88 seconds in the now defunct Cotabato Regional Athletic Association (CRAA) meet held in North Cotabato that was set by Kelsey Claire Jaudian of General Santos City.

Likewise, a swimmer from the South Cotabato division also broke the record in the secondary-girls 200-meter butterfly swim event.

Mariel Angela Sorolla, 13-year old 8th Grade Dole Philippines School student clocked 2 minutes 56.38 seconds, breaking the 3 minutes 3.23 seconds record set by Jacel Illustry of Koronadal City in the said swim event during the 2013 CRAA.

The existing Palaro record for the swim event is 2 minutes 49.13 seconds.

Other record breakers in the swimming event came from the Koronadal City Division, in the secondary-boys 200-meter freestyle (4 x 50 relay).

The quartet of Earl John Tablizo, Bryan Bryll Inamarga, Kevin Troy Dagum and Arvyn Clyne Pormilos broke the 2012 CRAA record of 1 minute 52.25 seconds, when they finished with a time clocking of 1 minute 51.94 seconds.

Likewise, Phelicity Joi Bose of Cotabato Division also broke the record in the 50-meter butterfly swim event with a time clocking of 36.15 seconds, surpassing the 37.06 seconds set coincidentally by Sorolla also during the 2013 CRAA.

The existing Palaro record for the swim event is 33.96 seconds.
