Four (4) LGUs in South Cotabato province were ranked among the top ten (!0) most visited destinations in SOCSARGEN or SOX, the Department of Tourism (DOT) 12 reported.
In their SOCCSARGENAnnual Tourist Arrival Report CY 2021, DOT 12 reported the municipalities of Lake Sebu, Norala, Tupi and the province’s capital and lone component City.of Koronadal as among the top 10 SOX LGUs in tourist arrivals.
Glan in Sarangani province which is noted for its beaches landed on the top spot this year after a brief hiattus in 2020 when its renowned SarBay Festival was suspended due to the CoViD-19 pandemic. Sarangani’s capital, Alabel, together with Maasim and Maitum LGUs, likewise joined Glan among the top tourist destinations in Sarangani.
General Santos City, one of the gateways to SOX due to its airport and seaport facilities remained on the top 10, while Bagumbayan is the lone LGU in Sultan Kudarat province that landed among the top 10.
SOX touriat arrival made a great leap from 1,220,868 same day visitors and 442,151 overnight visitors in 2020 to 4,152,772 same day visitors and 671,347 overnight visitors in 2021.
DOT 12 likewise reported that the average occupancy rate is 20.23% in the region for 1 night average stay and 2 average persons per room.
