Lake Sebu Clean-up Drive nets tons of water lilies… Illegal fish cages demolition successfully conducted

LAKE SEBU — Some 40 cubic meters of water lilies or about 40 tons were harvested during the month-long clean-up drive conducted, here, the Lake Warden Office (LWO) confirmed during an ocular inspection conducted last week.

Dondon Artacho, LWO Officer-in-Charge disclosed that the clean-up drive which started on May 25 and will end on June 24, was conducted primarily in Sitios Lamsufo, Isla Grande, Bacdulong, Lamnabol, Lambaning, 3 Fingers and Kaabay, this municipality.

With a budget of P100,000.00, Artacho added, some 20 workers worked round-the-clock to accomplished the month-long clean-up drive.

Meanwhile, about 50,000 square meters or 5 hectares of the municipal waters were also cleared of illegal fish cages by the warden office as part of their illegal fish cage demolition drive simultaneously conducted with the clean-up drive..

Artacho said that they were able to confiscate 2,100 bamboo poles, 7 illegal fish cages and 2 floating guard houses during the 1-month period.

The demolition drive was conducted based from the Executive Order signed earlier by Mayor Antonio Fungan enforcing the 10% maximum allowable limit of tilapia fish farming in the lake.
