Local Government Units (LGUs) from Luzon and Mindanao trooped to the province last February to learn about the different “best environment practices” it has initiated to protect and conserve its natural resources and adapt to the so-called “climate change” phenomenon for the past years.
Dipolog City in Northern Mindanao visited the Clustered Sanitary Landfill (SLF) in Colonggulo and Eco-Park in Centrala, both in Surallah.
Said LGU is interested to witness “first-hand” the operation of the 2014 Galing Pook (GP) awardee SLF in which they plan to replicate in their area. Centrala’s Eco-Park, which also functions as the town’s Central Material Recovery Facility, likewise showcased their composting facility and septic vault for special wastes and the equipment they use such as shredder, pulverizer and dryer, among others.
Meanwhile, Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino LGUs in Luzon together with some of their municipal LGUs also visited the different environment facilities in Surallah such as the SLF, Bamboo Hub in Surallah National High School and the newly-installed 6.25 MW NV Vogt Solar Power Plant in Centrala and observed lake management practices in Lake Sebu.
Earlier, GP visited the province to document its two 2015 GP winners such as the Provincial Environment Management Office “Minahang Bayanihan’ in T’boli and the Integrated Provincial Health Office “Healthplus Shop in a Shop” and 2014 GP winner Clustered Sanitary SLF in Surallah.
The interviewees were led by Governor Daisy Avance Fuentes, PEMOOfficer-In-Charge Siegfed Flaviano, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Rogelio Aturdido, Martiniano Magdulot of Mahintana Foundation, Surallah Mayor Antonio Bendita and T’boli Mayor Dibu Tuan.
