OF KORONADAL — Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environment Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) 12 has set September 17 this year as National Clean-up Day.
In an organizational meeting held last August 18 at Fred Ann’s Foodhauz, this city, Bai Soraya Meditar of DENR-EMB 12 disclosed that 15 Local Government Units (LGUs) in SOCCSKSARGEN Region were initially selected to have a DENR-EMB point person for coordination and documentation . Other LGUs together with DILG, DepED and other partner agencies have also signified their intention to join.
LGUs named are General Santos City, Cotabato City, Isulan and Tacurong City (Sultan Kudarat), Kidapawan City and Makilala (North Cotabato), Polomolok, Tupi, Koronadal City, Tantangan, Banga, Surallah and Sto. Nino (South Cotabato), Alabel and Maitum (Sarangani).
According to DENR officials, the clean-up drive is included in one of their priority programs for the first 100 days under the Duterte administration.
DENR – EMB 12 has set September 6 as the next meeting date to finalize the preparations for the said activity.
The office has been conducting regular coastal clean-up drive and other similar activities annually.
September 17 is internationally celebrated as Coastal Clean-up Day.
