Provincial information team empowers women to disseminate messages in communities

Koronadal City—The Provincial Information Office planned to organize system in conveying messages up to the barangay level, addressing issues on access related to community relations, Provincial Information Officer Rudy Jiminea announced.

The PIO, a newly opened department of the Provincial Government of South Cotabato, aims to establish Barangay-Based Education Information Team coined as BABAE IT. This aspect of government public relations includes reporting to the public the local government’s activities as a way of contributing to an informed public, disseminating information as a prelude to citizen participation in LGU decision-making, and listening to public opinion.

“For the pilot implementation, we wanted to put women on the forefront in rural communication because they  are resourceful agents of information dissemination,” Jiminea pointed out.

Jiminea said the unique feature of the program is partnering with private organizations in the barangay  in conveying messages to the grassroots level.

PIO tapped the Provincial Interior and Local Government to craft mechanisms of the program.

“We also put it as one of the items in the Annual Investment Plan as a project focusing on gender and development,” Jiminea added.

The team is set to launch the BABAE IT this year.
