20 schools to vie as Model School in Solid Waste Management

Twenty (20) schools will vie for this year’s 2016 Search for Model Schools in Solid Waste Management, an annual contest sponsored by the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO).

Based on the new mechanics of the contest, the selection of the participating schools in the elementary and high school levels will be made by drawing of lots, which was conducted last June 28.

LGU representatives coming from DepED and City/Municipal ENROs attended the drawing of lots facilitated by the PEMO staff.

Schools chosen were Sta. Cruz Elementary School and Liberty National High School in Tampakan, Banga Central Elementary School and Kusan National High School in Banga, Puti Elementary School and Sergio Legayada National High School in Norala, Talahik Elementary School and Colonggulo National High School in Surallah, Lugan Central Elementary School and New Dumangas National High School in T’boli, Belasa Catromayor Elementary School and Kablon National High School in Tupi, San Isidro Elementary School and Guinsang-an National High School in Sto. Nino, New Iloilo Elementary School and Tantangan Trade National High School in Tantangan, Upper Klinan Elementary School and Poblacion Polomolok National High School in Polomolok and Namnama Elementary School and Marbel 7 National High School in Koronadal City.

The unannounced initial evaluation is scheduled on the last week of July up to the first week of August while the final evaluation is scheduled on the first up to the second week of October.

Judging will be based on the following criteria: System and Process – 60%; Organization and Support System – 30%; Cleanliness and Beautification – 5%; Community Participation – 5%.

Both the initial and final evaluations have 40 and 60 percentage points, respectively.

According to Senior Environment Management Specialist Elbe Balucanag, chief of PEMO – Environment Management Division, the main objective of the contest that is to give due recognition and likewise serve as a reward and incentive to schools that implement “best practices” in solid waste management.
