Search for Model Schools in SWM now underway

The province-wide Search for Model Schools in Solid Waste Management (SWM) for elementary and high schools is now underway with the meeting of the SWM Technical Working Group or TWG led by the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) as the Head Secretariat and the evaluating team composed of provincial offices, national government agencies and NGO on June 30.

SWM-TWG members re-visited the existing mechanics, rules and guidelines, and criteria of the contest and decided to revise some portions of the criteria of the contest.

The group meanwhile retained the “window period” rule regarding the unannounced schedule of evaluation which will fall on the last week of July up to the first week of August for the initial evaluation and the last week of September up to the first week of October for the final evaluation.

Up for grabs for this year’s search are cash incentives, plaques and certificates for the Top 5 Winners and Special Award winners. Non-winners will likewise receive consolation prizes.

An orientation meeting is set on July 21 (Tuesday) among school administrators to discuss the contest’s mechanics, rules and guidelines and criteria before the scheduled evaluation.

The search which started in 2008 has already produced “grand-slam” or “3-peat” winners such as Silway 8 National High School (2009-11), Sto. Nino National High School (2012-14) and Polomolok Central Elementary School ( 2012-2014).

Evaluators are PEMO, PIO, DENR-EMB, DILG, DepED and South Cotabato Foundation, Inc.
