Small-Scale Miners undergo capacity-building training

55 small-scale miners (SSM), composed of tunnel workers and ball mill operators, underwent a one-day training on safety and health recently at the Minahang Bayan Center located in the mining town of T’boli.

The said capacity-building seminar entitled “Training on Safety & Health in the Underground and Cyanidation Plant” was sponsored by the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO).

Different topics were discussed by the discussants among the trainees during the morning session which were the following: Proper Tunneling and Tips on Monitoring of Tunnels – Lawrence Estana (PEMO Program Assistant); National Laws and Provincial Ordinances – Atty. Marnito Cosep (PEMO – Legal Desk Officer); Policies and Executive Orders – Nencita Acain, Supervising Environment Management Specialist (PEMO – Mines & Geo-Sciences Management Division).

Likewise in the afternoon, the topic and discussant was Safety & Health in the Underground and Cyanidation Plant with Aizah Lopez, Trainee Engineer of DENR – MGB 12.

Prior to the closing by PLLENRO President Engr. Julian Asion, T’boli MENRO, an Open Forum was conducted.
