SOCOT CONDUCTS HEALTH AND WELLNESS PROGRAM FOR CAPITOL EMPLOYEES DESPITE THE PANDEMIC

Koronadal City, South Cotabato – The Provincial Government of South Cotabato has been an advocate of healthier lifestyle for its employees focused on their overall wellness for greater productivity and efficiency. However, the declaration of the COVID-19 global pandemic has yet exposed one of the human vulnerabilities and taught all of us the utmost importance of health. While there are so many policies implemented to prevent its spread, the health of every member of the community has been a key development objective that is a shared accountability of the government, communities, households and individuals.

As the nation is starting to adopt the “new normal”, we are reminded that everybody is still susceptible, thus extreme precautions are required. Moving forward, as an agency that stands in the frontline, the Provincial Government of South Cotabato is bound to ensure the increase in physical and mental resilience of the people, reduce transmission in the communities, reduce contact and reduce duration of infection. In order to do that, South Cotabato implemented the health and wellness programs for the Provincial Capitol employees.

The agency, through the Provincial Employees’ Welfare Board, has been focused on reducing the risk factors of the diseases associated with the unhealthy and sedentary lifestyle common among working adults.

In accordance with the Departmental Health and Wellness Program, the PGO-Information and Communications Division developed and implemented a health and wellness program among its employees based on the guidelines prescribed by the Provincial Employees’ Welfare Board. It includes a variety of activities that may cater all age groups and physical conditions and promotes participation and positive health behaviors. The physical fitness activities include walking/brisk walking, jogging, zumba fitness, yoga at your desk, chair tai-chi, and deskercise.
