SoCot remains ASF-free

KORONADAL, SOUTH COTABATO – The Provincial Government of South Cotabato through the office of the Provincial Veterinary continues in campaigning and establishing measures to maintain an ASF-free province.

As of the record, neighboring provinces such as a portion of North Cotabato, Davao Region, and some parts of Sarangani were already infected by the said virus.

In connection to this, Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. enact an ordinance (Ordinance No. 36, S. of 2020) prescribing the policies, regulatory guidelines and precautionary measures to prevent the entry of African swine fever in the province.

“As of now fortunate gihapon kita nga ang South Cotabato is “Green Zone” or ASF-Free. We’re hoping and we are determined na i maintain naton ang aton pagka green zone or ASF-Free nga probinsiya. Subong gina intensify kag gina strengthen naton ang aton mga programa sa pagpugong nga indi makasulod dire sa South Cotabato ang ASF.” Dr. Byron Dela Cruz, DVM said during the conduct of the press conference.

Due to the strong effort and preventive measure being established in the entry and exit point of this province, the number of packs of pork products and by-products was apprehended.

In the first month of the second, 40 packs of pork chicharon were confiscated after verification and confirmation that the products originally came from Tarlac, which is declared as ASF infected area.

“Selling, including “online ” selling and advertisement and trading of any form of pork, pork products and its by-products in any form and quantity that were coming from any origin declared as ASF infected areas is a prohibited act under the Province ASF ordinance no .36 S. 2020.

The confiscated products were immediately disposed of properly.
