City of Koronadal – The Provincial Solid Waste Management Board (PSWMB) chaired by Governor Daisy Avance Fuentes eyed the employment of modern technology in health care waste management, this after the presentation of a prospective investor during its regular meeting held recently at Villa Princessita, this city.
Davao-based RAD Green Solutions Corporation, through its Vice-President Engr. Roderick Dayot, presented the latest in health care wastes treatment, storage and disposal, which is currently used by hospitals all over the country.
“The technology uses pyro-clave which is similar to a pressure cooker that does not use fire in cooking food,” Engr. Dayot explained.
Health care wastes, Dayot added, must be first placed inside sealed receptacles by hospitals, and will be collected by a container van before transporting it to the waste treatment facility.
After the treatment process, hospital wastes will be delivered inside treated containers to the sanitary landfill facility for proper disposal, Dayot further added.
Environment authorities approved the use of such technology since the treated wastes does not excrete leach or seepage water and also does not pollute the air just like when using an incinerator.
In a study conducted by the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO), the total volume of health care wastes generated by hospitals amounted to 484 kilograms.
South Cotabato Provincial Hospital, according to its Chief of Hospital Dr. Conrado Brana, generates around 249 kilograms a month.
PEMO presented during the meeting 3 options in purchasing the lot intended for the Provincial Integrated Environment Management Demonstration Center and Treatment Facility.
The initial capital outlay for said project this year is P5 million.
