South Cotabato Athletic Association (SCAA) aims for a four straight win in the upcoming Soccsksargen Regional Athletic Association (SRAA) Meet slated on February 17-22, 2019 at Kiamba, Sarangani province.
The 846-member strong delegation remains non-complacent of its previous win amidst the Hall of Fame award they received last year following a home court advantage during the regional meet held in Koronadal City sponsored by the Deped South Cotabato Division.
South Cotabato has been the over-all champion in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
“We are more than prepared.” Tyrone Jann Villanueva, provincial sports coordinator said,
South Cotabato has conducted a whole year-round training for its athletes.
Aside from this, specialized training for the Individual events from November to December last year was also implemented for the first time this season to give focus on events which can give more medals for the province.
The activity was followed by a 25-day intensive training in January to February before they proceed to Kiamba.
The provincial government of South Cotabato has allocated Php9- million for the SRAA training and the SRAA Meet proper. Said fund is part of the Php19.2 million fund for the sports development program under the Special Education Fund approved by the Provincial School Board headed by Governor Daisy P. Avance-Fuentes as the chairperson.
Some of the sports strong events which can give the team gold medals include individual events such as athletics, swimming, taekwondo, archery, gymnastics among others.
For group games, these include basketball, baseball, softball, and volleyball.
” We give focus on individual events since we follow the medal tally system,” Villanueva said,
SRAA has been applying this system for two years now, in adherence to the medal system being used in the Palarong Pambansa.
Villanueva assured winning athletes will receive cash incentives.
