South Cotabato applies for 2 special economic zones

Koronadal City—Documents for the application of South Cotabato’s two economic zones are still pending, Governor Reynaldo Tamayo, Jr confirmed in a recent press conference.

“We have a few documents needed. The team from the planning office is ensuring the establishment of two special economic zones,” the governor stressed.

The governor said job opportunities are waiting in these economic zones. The SEZ for IT houses BPO companies, while the SEZ for the agro-industrial economic zone benefits the integrated food terminal.

Meanwhile, the governor is also pushing for the re-opening of ports in General Santos City in preparation for the economic zones in South Cotabato.

The governor eyes the establishment of special economic zones in Tupi and the City of Koronadal for the special economic zones.

The SEZs maximize the ready availability of local resources and serve as specialized primary industries. Further, through these SEZs, Tamayo hopes to drive economic growth in this part of Mindanao.

“As we allocate funds for the education program, we need to secure job opportunities for our scholars so that they don’t need to look for jobs outside the province,” the governor added.
