South Cotabato conducts clean-up drive on World Earth Day

The provincial government of South Cotabato spearheaded by the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) conducted a province-wide clean-up and beautification drive on April 22 in celebration of World Earth Day.

City/Municipal LGUs conducted general clean-up and roadside beautification in their respective area from 8am to 10 am, particularly in offices and along highways in cooperation with other government agencies, private organizations, NGOs and stakeholders.

Synchronized with the general clean-up and roadside beautification was the Anti-Smoke Belching Campaign in Crossing Rubber, Tupi by the South Cotabato Airshed Governing Board, an environment monitoring body composed of DENR-EMB. LTO, DTI, TESDA, PEMO, C/MLGUs and NGOs such SCFI, UTODCO, SCCIFI and UTODCO.

Motor vehicles, whether gasoline or diesel-run, including motorcycles were subjected to smoke emission test using the Euro 2 Emissions Standards.

Some 50 vehicles were flagged down by the task force to avail of the “free” emissions tests.

Governor Daisy Avance Fuentes enjoined through a memorandum all provincial capitol employees as well as through written communication addressed to C/MLGUs to conduct an In-house clean-up drive and beautification on said date from 8am to 10am by way of general cleaning and beautification of the different offices.

Now on its 45th year of celebration, this year’s World Earth Day theme is “IT’S OUR TURN TO LEAD.”
