South Cotabato incurred a total of eleven (11) firecracker-related injuries from December 13, 2020 to January 1, 2021, the Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (PESU) reported.
PESU chief Celia Lorenzo, RND confirmed that the cases reported were 59% lower compared to the same period last year which registered 27 cases. Most of the cases were male (10 out of 11) with ages ranging from 5 to 29 years old.
“Boga”, classified as illegal firecracker, top the list of firecracker-related injury incur with3 victims followed by “Kwitis” (legal firecracker) with 2 injuries, while the rest of the listed illegal and legal firecrackers (Flying Tiger, Pla-Pla, Triangle, Fountain, Fireworks, Sparkler) incurred 1 injury each.
Moreover, PESU reported that 73% of the victims suffered blast or burn without amputation, while 73% suffered eye injury; there is zero death and no case of stray bullet likewise reported out of the 91%active and 9% passive victims.
The towns of Lake Sebu, Polomolok, Tampakan and Tantangan have consistent zero injury case for 2 consecutive years. Meanwhile, Banga was the only municipality that registered an increase in injury this year compared to last year from 1 to 3 cases, while the remaining municipalities all registered a decrease in the number of injury cases.(photocredir:google.com)
