SWM-TWG prepares for Search for Model Schools in Solid Waste Management 2016

A Technical Working Group (TWG) meeting was conducted recently in preparation for the Search for Model Schools in Solid Waste Management 2016 by the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) as its Head Secretariat.

PEMO-Environment Management Division chief Senior Environment Management Specialist Elbe Balucanag led the discussion on the contest criteria, mechanics and guidelines attended by representatives coming from DepED South Cotabato and Koronadal City Schools Divisions, DENR-EMB 12, DILG Provincial Office, PIO and South Cotabato Foundation Inc.

Balucanag disclosed during the meeting that some revisions will be made in the criteria particularly on the manner of choosing the school that will participate as entry in this year’s contest.

“Drawing of lots will be conducted to determine the participating school, in which case those who have participated in the previous years’ contest are not allowed to join anymore,” Balucanag stressed.

Drawing of lots by DepED representatives is scheduled at the PEMO’s office on June 28 at 1 pm and will be witnessed by TWG members.

Up for grab are cash incentives for the Top 5 major winners and consolation prize for non-winners. Additional cash incentives will likewise be given to Special Awards winners.

The Search for Model Schools in Solid Waste Management 2016 is tentatively scheduled on the last of week of July and will culminate on October this year.
