Tboli jumper breaks nine-year old palaro record

DAVAO City- It was the last athletic event on the first day of the Palaro on Monday afternoon when Hazel C. Domocum, a 12-year old young Tboli athlete from Banga, South Cotabato made a surprising leap of 5.08 meters at the University of Mindanao Sports Complex grounds for her event in long jump Girls/Elementary.
She won the first gold medal in athletics that cap the initial nine medals won during the day as the rest of the gold medals won were courtesy of the Arnis Team from Tacurong City.
She was happy that she finally got her most coveted gold for this year’s palaro, as this is going to be her last year representing the elementary division having graduated at Rang-ay Integrated School early this month.
But little did she knew it was the leap that could go down in history after she wipes out the nine –year old Palaro record of 5.07 meters set by Alyssa Marie Andrade of Western Visayas set during the 2010 Palarong Pambansa in Tarlac.
She was the new 2019 Palaro record holder in long jump.
“Nagbunga man ang akon sakripisyo, salamat gid sa tanan nga nagbulig sa akon.” she said in Hiligaynon.
As a loving daughter, she said she will use the incentives she will receive out of her winning to renovate their house.
“ Dugay ko na ni nga handum kay pirte gid kami ka pegado.” she said,
Domocum is the eldest child from a brood of five.
Her father worked as a chainsaw operator while her mother is a plain housewife taking care of her sibling. .
Aside from the abovementioned event, Domocum still has events in triple jump and 4×100 meter relay until Friday.
She dreamt of becoming a doctor someday.
