T’boli LGU tops Urban Greening Program with 103% accomplishment

The municipality of T’boli achieved 103% accomplishment in the implementation of Urban Greening Program, a program of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) that aims to plant and grow different flowering plant species in the roadside particularly along national highways all over the country.

DENR 12 together with the Provincial League of Local Environment and Natural Resources Officers (PLLENRO) – South Cotabato Chapter as program contractor, implemented the said program that started last year in partnership with LGUs.

In a meeting conducted recently by PLLENRO presided over by Forester Mary Jane Manlisis, chief of the Forest and Inland Water Division of the Provincial Environment Management Office, the group tackled the accomplishment of each LGU based on the Delivery of Planting Materials, Total Number of Planting Materials Planted and its Survival Rate.

“T’boli LGU topped the implementation with 6,600 Eugenia species planted versus its target of 6,400 or equivalent to 103% accomplishment. It submitted a damage report of 365 planting materials but later reported it was able to recover through replanting,” Forester Manlisis disclosed.

Some LGUs got 100% on the Delivery of Planting Materials but were not able to reach 100% on the Total Number of Planting Materials Planted due to some issues and concerns such as the incomplete delivery of planting materials by the contractor and road repair conducted by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 12 that damaged the plants.

Based on the accomplishment report submitted by the LGUs, Tampakan under Mt. Matutum Protected Landscape was able to plant 2,574 out of 8,000; Polomolok and Tupi under CENRO – Gen. Santos City – 16,545 versus 27,200; Banga, Surallah, Sto. Nino and Norala under CENRO – Banga – 11,738 versus 16,000; Surallah, T’boli and Lake Sebu under Allah Valley Protected Landscape – 16,869 versus 23,201; Tantangan, Banga and Koronadal City under PENRO – 20,817 versus 36,000.00

PLLENRO decided to call for another meeting together with DENR 12 and DPWH 12 to tackle said issues.
