Lugan CES, Colongulo NHS win Search for Model Schools in SWM

Lugan Central Elementary School of T’boli and Colongulo National High School of Surallah won the 2016 Search for Model Schools in Solid Waste Management in the elementary and high school categories, respectively, participated by 17 schools province-wide.

Lugan CES landed second place during last year’s search while Colongulo NHS is a neophyte in this year’s contest.

As first prize winners, both schools received cash incentives of P50,000 plus plaque each.

Other winners per category are as follows: Elementary – 2nd Prize (P30,000) – Namnama ES – Koronadal City; 3rd Prize (P20,000) – Talahik ES – Surallah; 4th Prize (P10,000) – Sta. Cruz ES – Tampakan; 5th Prize (P8,000) – Puti ES, Norala; High School – 2nd Prize (P30,000) – Poblacion Polomolok NHS, Polomolok; 3rd Prize (P20,000) – Marbel 7 NHS; 4th Prize (P10,000) – Sergio L. Legayada NHS – Norala; 5th Prize (P8,000) – Guinsang-an NHS.

Non-winners Banga CES – Banga, Belaza Catromayor ES – Tupi, New Dumangas NHS – T’boli, Kablon NHS – Polomolok, San Isidro ES – Sto. Nino, Upper klinan ES – Polomolok and Tantangan National Trade High School – Tantangan meanwhile received P5,000 each as consolation prize.

Seven (7) Special Awards were also given to deserving schools, both in elementary and high schools.

The Special Award winners (Elementary Category) for Best in Documentation were Namnama ES (First Place – P5,000), New Iloilo – Tantangan (Second Place – P3,000) and Puti ES (Third Place – P2,000); Best in IEC – Namnama ES (P5,000); Best in Composting – Belaza Castromayor ES – Tupi (P5,000); Best in Organic Garden – Lugan CES (P5,000); Best in Recycling – Talahik ES (P5,000); Best in Community Participation – Namnama ES (P5,000); Best YES-O Program Implementer – Namnama ES.

For the High School Category, Special Award winners for Best in Documentation were Marbel 7 NHS (First Place – P5,000), Congulo NHS (Second Place – P3,000) and Poblacion Polomolok NHS (Third Place – P2,000); Best in IEC – Poblacion Polomolok NHS (P5,000); Best in Composting – Guinsang-an NHS (P5,000); Best in Organic Garden – Poblacion Polomolok NHS (P5,000); Best in Recycling – Marbel 7 NHS (P5,000); Best in Community Participation – Colongulo NHS (P5,000); Best YES-O Program Implementer – Colongulo NHS.

Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO), the forerunner of the annual contest, conducted two evaluations from July to October this year together with the multi-office team of evaluators from PEMO, Provincial Information Office, Department of Education Koronadal City and South Cotabato Divisions, Department of Interior and Local Government – South Cotabato and NGO South Cotabato Foundation Inc.

Awarding was made during the 5th South Cotabato Recyclable Waste Fair on November 15 at Gaisano Mall, City of Koronadal.
